3-7-18 Initial Hearing - Conduct
At the initial hearing, the Children’s Court shall advise the Wakanyeja, in language the Wakanyeja will easily understand, of the following:
- the nature and purpose of the proceedings;
- the contents of the truancy petition;
- the possible consequences if the Wakanyeja is found to be a truant;
- the right to counsel;
- the privilege against self-incrimination;
- the right to an adjudication in accordance with the provisions of this chapter;
- the right to cross-examine witnesses;
- the right to testify, the right to subpoena witnesses, and the right to introduce evidence on the Wakanyeja's own behalf;
- the right to appeal any final order of the Children’s Court.
