3-7-18 Initial Hearing - Conduct

At the initial hearing, the Children’s Court shall advise the Wakanyeja, in language the Wakanyeja will easily understand, of the following:

1. the nature and purpose of the proceedings;
2. the contents of the truancy petition;
3. the possible consequences if the Wakanyeja is found to be a truant;
4. the right to counsel;
5. the privilege against self-incrimination;
6. the right to an adjudication in accordance with the provisions of this chapter;
7. the right to cross-examine witnesses;
8. the right to testify, the right to subpoena witnesses, and the right to introduce evidence on the Wakanyeja's own behalf;
9. the right to appeal any final order of the Children’s Court.
