2-2-13. APPEARANCES.
At the time fixed for hearing the Petition for adoption, the proposed adoptive parent, the child to be adopted, and any spouse of the proposed adoptive parent must appear before the Court and execute consents to the adoption. The natural parents may appear at said hearing for the purpose of either consenting to the adoption or resisting the adoption if the Petition alleges that the adoption should take place without their consent pursuant to Section 2-2-5 of this Code. All persons except the proposed adoptive child and the proposed adoptive parents may enter their appearances through Power of Attorney. Also at the time of hearing the Petition for adoption, the proposed adoptive parents must execute an agreement with the Court that said parent shall treat the child to be adopted in all respects as a natural and lawful child should be treated.
